New Delhi: It seems Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot‘s political future is likely to sink in the vortex of Bharatpur firing and Bhanwari Devi case. In a bid to safeguard his position, Gehlot visited Delhi many times; he met Congress president Sonia Gandhi three times at 10 Janpath, but his efforts to meet party’s General Secretary Rahul Gandhi has gone in vain.

According to reports, the dejected Chief Minister later knocked the door of Minister of State for Home Affairs, Kunwar jitendra Singh, who is known to be a prominent member of the Team Rahul, and sought his help.

The highly placed sources in the Congress party consider the “Rajasthan political situation highly explosive”.

“The situation in Rajasthan is so complex that the Congress-ruled state can go out of its hand even prior to elections in the five states, therefore, the party has avoided taking action against Gehlot. When the latter met Sonia Gandhi on the occasion of Eid, he was given a message in clear terms that this is the last opportunity for him,” the sources added.

Notably, the Gehlot government has been facing the heat on the issues of Bhanwari Devi case and Bharatpur firing on minorities. The Congress took action against Maderna, but Gehlot failed to take harsh action against his Ministers fearing government fall out.

Meanwhile, the Congress is scared of the Rajasthan controversies that may have a direct impact on its political prospects as five states are going to have Assembly Polls, especially in the wake of Bharatpur firing, which has irked Muslim segment of the society.
