New Delhi: Bikram Singh Brahma, a local Congress party leader from Chirang district of Assam, was on Thursday nabbed and beaten up by angry villagers after he allegedly raped a woman, who is a mother of two children.

Brahma, who is the Bodoland Territorial Area Districts (BTAD) Congress co-ordination Committee chief, was nabbed by villagers in Salbari village during the wee hours on Thursday, a remote area in Chirang district.

The police said that they have recorded the victim’s statement and have registered a case against Brahma.

The incident came as a major embracement to the Congress party ahead of panchayat elections slated in the state next month.
