Guwahati:: In view of the ‘Raising Day’ of the banned seperatist group United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) on Saturday, security has been beefed up throughout Assam to prevent any unlawful activity.

Special attention has been given to the districts of Tinsukia, Sibsagar, Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Lakhimpur, Dhemaji, Dhubri, Goalpara and Nalbari, the sources said.
Additional police pickets have been posted in vulnerable areas while entry and exit routes of important towns have been sealed. Senior ULFA leaders including Rajiv Das and Rinku Bhuyan, wife of the elusive commander-in-chief Paresh Barua, were reportedly hiding in Lakhimpur district, the sources said.
The ULFA was formed in the historic Ranghar of Sibsagar on April 7 in 1979.

Meanwhile, an ULFA cadre was arrested by a joint team of Army and police from Kokrajhar district of lower Assam, officials said on Friday. Acting on a tip off, security men caught him from Fakiragram market area on Friday night.
Police said the ULFA cadre has been identified as Biju Roy and they also recovered one 9mm pistol, three rounds of ammunition and one mobile from his possession.
