Gogoi expressed his condolence to the son and wife of the slain Superintendent of Police.

Minister of State for Home Kirren Rijiju along with a host of senior government officials and police personnel were also present at the funeral here.
    
Goswami of Hamren police district was leading an operation against the insurgent outfit in remote Rongthang forest area where the men in uniform came face-to-face with a large group of the ultras who opened fire on them on Thursday night.
    
The police team retaliated and in the ensuing encounter, Goswami and his personal security guard were killed.

The state government on Friday announced an ex-gratia grant of Rs 20 lakh each to the next of kin of the Superintendent of Police and his PSO.

Meanwhile, Gogoi also suspended the four Personal Security Officers of the slain police official as they had fled from the encounter site leaving behind Goswami and Nunisa, official sources said here.

The family of the slain SP has demanded a CBI probe into the whole incident.

The KPLT, formed in 2010, has been demanding creation of a Hemprek Kanthim (self-ruled homeland) for the Karbi people.
    
It is a breakaway anti-talks faction of the ethnic insurgent Karbi Longri N.C. Hills Liberation Front (KLNLF).
