New Delhi: Amid uproar created by the Opposition, the Delhi Assembly approved Delhi Municipal Corporation (Amendments) Bill 2011 trifurcating MCD.  Also, 50 percent reservation for women in urban local body got affirmation.

The state assembly dismissed the amendments in the duties of Mayor of Council proposed by the Opposition. After the assembly’s green signal for MCD split, new local body will formed for north, south and eastern part of national capital.

Claiming it as a historical decision, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit addressing two day- long session of the assembly over MCD partition said, “The government is no mood to snatch powers from MCD. If this was the case, we could have demanded partition two three years back during the BJP ruling in the MCD.”

Approving the formation of Directorate of local body, Dikshit said the directorate will maintain coordination among the three corporations but will not intervene in their respective responsibilities.
The Chief Minister expressed delight over 50 percent reservation for women in the assembly.
