New Delhi: In a bid to put a check on bogus or fake voting during the upcoming assembly elections in five poll bound states, the Election Commission on Friday issued fresh directives.

The electoral body on Friday decided to prepare a list of fake voters as a precautionary measure, to facilitate fair elections in the states.

As per the new directives, the list of voters who have registered their names from more than one constituency, absentee voters (voters who don’t live at the registered address with the commission) and ASD (duplicate) voters will be prepared and same will be circulated to all the poll stations in different constituencies across the five states.

Besides this, if the listed voters appear for voting in any polling booths then their signature, thumb mark and recent photo will be deposited for the official records in order to avoid any discrepancy.

The Election Commission has also directed that recent photos of every voter who appear for voting in Manipur, which is going for polling on Saturday, should be submitted in their respective polling booths.

The commission has strongly asked the chief electoral officers in all the poll bound sates to prepare the list of absentee voters.

The EC has also asked female polling officers to take pictures of all the female voters who turn up for voting at the booths in veil especially Muslim women. However, if they protest against being clicked, they will be still allowed to vote.
