West Delhi: Amid people are feeling pinch owing to inflation going through roof, attractive and inexpensive Diwali gifts prepared by Tihar jail prisoners may give some relief.  This is the first time that Diwali gifts have been prepared in Tihar jail factory.

Diyas and candles prepared by the inmates will lure people from low income group as they can also afford to buy these gifts for their friends and relatives.

Tihar jail spokesperson and law officer Sunil Gupta said that the gift items are available at 15 Tihar jail stalls in Delhi, the price of which ranges from Rs 100 to 150. There are there 3 distributers spread over NCR. These gift packs are also available for the people of Gurgaon and Ghaziabad.

These gifts comprise snacks, biscuits and cakes prepared in jail’s bakery. The eatables prepared in Tihar jail are free from adulteration, hence it is healthy for people and also less expensive for the buyers, said jail officials.

The prisoners in jail number 8 and 9 are preparing diyas and candles and till date 25,000 packets of candle are prepared, said the jail officials.

There is an exhibition from October 19 to 23 in City Mall Saket, which showcases Tihar jail’s products and paintings including gift packs, candles and diyas.
