The autonomous driving system uses a laser scanner, several video cameras, radar sensors and ultrasound sensors.

During the drive, which started from California’s famous Silicon Valley, the Audi A7 3.0 TFSI quattro piloted driving concept’s long-haul test drive was witnessed by members of the media too.

The A7 piloted driving concept is said to be highly capable platform in real-world conditions, managing to safely negotiate regular traffic situations.

"The results of the test drive underscores our piloted driving competency", Ulrich Hackenberg, Audi board member for technical development, said.

The 'revolutionary' vehicle sports four smaller cameras at the front and rear of the vehicle which provides its a short-range information of the surrounding environment.

In addition, the hi-resolution, wide-angle 3D video camera, takes care of the surrounding traffic.

The Concept car is programmed to behave like the ideal driver which can initiate lane changes as well as accelerate and brake independently.
