New Delhi: On UP panchayat diktat imposing restricting on freedom of women, state Urban Development Minister Azam Khan has said that he finds nothing strange about it as it was an internal matter of the concerned society.

Reacting to the bans imposed by a panchayat in Bagpat district of the state in which the women below 40 years of age have been asked not to visit in the market unescorted, not to attempt love marriages and also not to use mobile phones in the streets, the UP minister said that the panchayat it was no way a matter of concern as long as no force is applied for this purpose or law and order situation has not been disturbed.

While reacting to the Panchayat’s diktat, Khan said that he is not the agent of mobile phone firms to be worried about in this regard.

However, speaking to media in on this matter, Union Home Minister P Chidambaram termed such diktats as undemocratic and said that he expected the Uttar Pradesh government to take action against those who try to enforce such "illegal" orders.
