Ranchi: Following the humiliating 4-0 series defeat by Australia, former India skipper Mohammed Azharuddin lashed out at Indian cricket team and its captain MS Dhoni saying it is high time to make new and stronger team for the future.

India has lost its past eight overseas Tests, most by big margins against England and Australia, spelling out message among fans and former players that rejig in the team is overdue.

On being asked the reason behind India’s whitewash Down Under, he replied, “There are many reasons for the debacle. From captaincy to players everybody was struggling and their dismal performance was clearly visible.”

On Dhoni he said, “He is a good player but asking him to lead Indian side in all three formats of the game is not justified. He seemed to be struggling as a Test batsman in England and Australia that’s why he not apt to lead the Test side.”

“Senior players should make way for younger blood in the team. They have served country with lot of pride and determination but every good innings will have an end. They have reached fag end of their career, so they should take a call.” Azhar said.

“Dravid was the only one who played good knocks in England but in Australia all the seniors failed to perform. Indian opening batsmen Gautam Gambhir and Virender Sehwag also failed to give team good start.” Azhar added.

While lashing out at Indian cricket board (BCCI) he said, “Board has made these players work like machines, earlier the time period used for resting players is now being utilized for hosting IPLT20. The worn-out issue is taking a toll on players. Board should use rotation policy to keep the players fit and fine.”
