Lucknow: Heavy downpour and cold waves on the first day of New Year 2012 played a spoilsport in the election rally of several political factions in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday.

Samajwadi Party, which organized its first election rally in Azamgarh on Sunday, had to face the brunt of bad weather as the the party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav and the party’s Muslim face Azam Khan failed to turn up as the chopper carrying them could not land owing to inclement weather.

However, despite the constant showers and bone chilling cold waves, two other popular faces of the party, general secretary Mohan Singh and Abu Asim Azmi managed to pull up the crowd.
