Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Wednesday offered free educational facilities to students hailing from Ladakh region to ensure their overall development.

His government would take up this matter with the Jammu and Kashmir administration, Badal told a group of students from Eastern Ladakh region who came to Punjab under "Operation Sadbhavna" of the Indian Army.

The Chief Minister recalled age-old ties between Punjab and Ladakh saying both were an integral part of Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s empire, an official release said.

The state government would make all out efforts for providing free education to students of Ladakh to ensure their overall development, Badal said.

He asked Army authorities to widen the scope of "Operation Sadbhavna" by organising tours of farmers of Ladakh region to Punjab.
