Patna/Mumbai:  Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will not be able to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal due to the ongoing budget session and other unavoidable reasons, an official release said on Monday.

Kumar has deputed Rural Works Minister Bhim Singh to attend Badal's swearing-in on his behalf, the release said.

Singh has left for Chandigarh by road to be present at ceremony, slated for March 14, it said.

Meanwhile, Agriculture minister Sharad Pawar may attend the swearing-in ceremony, party sources said.

"Pawar saheb has plans to attend the function on condition that there is no major development in Parliament (on that day)," NCP sources said.

Pawar is now in Mumbai and attended a function with President Pratibha Patil to mark the launch of the year-long birth centenary celebrations of Maharashtra's first chief minister Yashwantrao Chavan.
