Dubai: Bahrain has decided to close its embassy in Damascus and to recall its diplomats due to deteriorating security in Syria.

"Due to the deteriorating security situation in Syria, the Kingdom of Bahrain has decided to close its embassy in Damascus and to withdraw all diplomats and officials who work there," the official of Foreign Ministry said.

The ministry advised Bahrainis who were still in Syria to "be cautious and to immediately leave this country."

Bahrain's decision comes a day after a similar move by Saudi Arabia. The two countries were among six Gulf monarchies to expel Syria's ambassadors and withdraw their own from the strife-torn nation in February.
