K. Srinivas, president (Two Wheelers), Bajaj Auto Ltd said that our efforts to specialize in Motorcycles, creating differentiation and brand positioning has helped in taking position of a market leader.

Hero Honda Splendor is best selling model of Hero MotoCorp and its technology was taken from its old partner Honda. With 100 cc engine, the motorcycle used to give the mileage of 70-80 km per litre. With the nation obsessed with mileage, the motorcycle became a runaway hit. It enjoyed the position of being most efficient motorcycle in the world.

Hero MotoCorp has said that Splendor is most sold bike of the world. Last year, we sold 20 Lakh units and this year as well we are going to touch the sales figure of last year. Hero has also indicated on venturing into foreign market in near future.

Rajiv Bajaj, MD of Bajaj Auto has already said Discover will repeat what Splendor did to its most selling two-wheeler Bajaj Chetak in the past. While, Bajaj Discover was sold in overseas market, the Splendor was confined to Indian market only due to its agreement with Honda.

Srinivas said that with opening of exports, they are aiming to take the sales figure to 1,50,000. Bajaj is also planning to put six overseas manufacturing plants including Africa and Latin America.

Auto expert G Srinivasan said export will play major role in driving the fortune of Bajaj Discover. But it should not be forgotten that Hero MotoCorp is also taking aggressive stand on export front.
