Ballia (UP): Three brothers were sentenced to 10 years and their mother and sister to seven years of imprisonment each by a local court here in a case of dowry death.

The case pertains to the killing of the wives of one of the brothers in March 2008.

Sindhu was killed by her husband Bharat and in-laws for dowry. Later in a bid to conceal the crime, her body was disposed off in a pond, prosecution sources said. Her father Ashtami Rajbhar lodged an FIR alleging that she was killed for dowry.

On the basis of evidences, Additional District Judge Anil Kumar Jha sentenced Bharat and his two brothers Parambhoot and Bhual to 10 years imprisonment each.

The judge sentenced Bharat's mother Sumeshwari Devi and sister Poonam Devi to seven years imprisonment on Tuesday.
