Srinagar: Ruling National Conference in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday said United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki Moon's visit to India will help to restart the dialogue with Pakistan to resolve all outstanding issues between the two countries.

"The entire National Conference leadership welcomes Ban Ki Moon's visit to New Delhi because it reignites the hope that it will not only restart the dialogue process but also help strengthen the ties between the political leadership of both the countries," NC General Secretary Sheikh Nazir Ahmad said in a statement.

It is the forte of United Nations to play the role of a mediator to bring principal parties of any dispute together and resolve it peacefully, the statement quoted Ahmad as saying.

"National Conference has always facilitated all such moves that bring the leadership of India and Pakistan on the negotiation table and resolve all the disputes," he said.

Ahmad said the NC believes that Kashmir is a political issue and its resolution lies only through political means.

"NC has always supported and worked as a bridge between the two countries helping them to progress in the fields of trade, economy and political issues," he said.

India and Pakistan fought three wars, which resulted only in death and destruction, he said.
