New Delhi: In-order to keep the denizens of the city hale and hearty, Delhi government has decided to ban Gutkha completely in the capital. There is a possibility that a notification would be issued to this effect in a day or two for which a decision was taken in a meeting held on Monday.

The meeting was attended by the Chief Minister Sheila Dixit, Health Minister Dr Ashok Kumar Walia as well as a few top notch officials of Delhi government.

On this occasion it was decided to put a ban on the production, sale, display, transportation as well as storage of gutkha.

In this regard, a few senior officials of Delhi government said that it has been decided to enforce a ban on Gutkha or other tobacco products like Pan Masala and Gutkha in the city as ingredients of nicotine as well as of tobacco have been found in them which are considered very harmful for health.

After this strict action would be taken in case production and sale of gutkha comes in notice at any place in the city.

PFA to take action if gutka ban violated

Officials said that the Department of Prevention of Food Adulteration (PFA) of the health government would take samples of such products and action would be taken against those who are found involved in selling as well as manufacturing such products.

They also said that Delhi government was prompted to take this decision while keeping the health of city people in view and it did not care for its revenue while enforcing a ban. Remarkably, last week Delhi government had sent a proposal to ban gutkha to the Lt. Governor of Delhi Tejendra Khanna for his approval.

Remarkably, the Delhi High Court had asked the state government a few days back that it should ban Gutkha in the city.

Officials further said that approximately gutkha worth Rs two crore is sold in the city on daily basis.
