New Delhi: Hours after an explosion took place near BJP’s office in Bangalore that left 16 people including eight policemen injured, Karnataka Home Minister R Ashok said that it was a clear act of terror and the party office was on target.

The blast took place at 10:20 am on Wednesday near the BJP office in the Malleshwaram area of Bangalore, a crowded residential neighbourhood. According to the sources IED was used to trigger the blast.

Karnataka Home Minister R Ashok told reporters that the blast was a clear act of terror. Ashok said, “BJP office was the target of the blast. This act was to terrorize BJP and its workers.”
“Of the 16 injured, 11 are police personnel and five are civilians, including three women,” Ashoka said while making an appeal to people to remain calm.

Several vehicles were gutted but there was no damage to the party office in the explosion. According to reports, a team of National Investigation Agency (NIA) had reached the blast site.

Wednesday’s blast comes ahead of the crucial Assembly elections in Karnataka which are scheduled to take place on May 5.
