Kolkata: Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee on Sunday said that 73,000 villages in the country would have banking facility by March 31 2012.

He was speaking after inaugurating a Punjab National Bank (PNB) branch at Talai under Raghunathganj police station area in Murshidabad district.

He said, “Going by the current pace of work, the banking facility would reach all those villages lacking this facility now.”

“Government wants to enable every citizen of the country to avail banking facility in future,” he added.

Thereafter, Mukherjee also inaugurated an agriculture training centre in the village and expressed hopes that it would help farmers to acquire modern farming skills for better yield.

He said, “Farmers, by getting training of modern agricultural techniques can prosper themselves more.”

The training center in Murshidabad has been set up jointly by PNB and the ITC group with the aim to train village farmers.
