Ludhiana: Five containers of banned oxygen gas cylinders and rims, used in trucks, being brought from Dubai were seized by Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) department team on Tuesday.

Mona Steel located in Mandi Gobindgarh had imported the scrap containing containers form Dubai. The secret team of DRI had received a clue in this regard on Tuesday. On the basis of the information, DRI team searched the containers at the Ramgarh port and found the oxygen cylinders along with the other scrap. They also seized rims of tyres of various vehicles.

Noticing the large number of scrap containers, the team seized the containers.
According to the experts, use of gas cylinders in a unit can trigger a massive blast leading to a fatal tragedy.

Notably, permission needs to be sought by the Chief Controller for importing such containers.

The department searched three out of five containers on Tuesday and expert engineers were also called on the spot. Confirming the incident, HN Meena, Deputy Director, DRI said, “Investigations are going on in this case.”
