Madrid: FC Barcelona will be without winger Alexis Sanchez for 10-15 days after the Chilean suffered a muscle injury during Saturday night's 3-1 win at home against Sporting Gijon.

Barcelona confirmed Sunday that Alexis suffered a small tear in the left side of his groin.

The injury means he will miss his side's Champions League return leg at home to Bayer Leverkusen as well as next weekend's away trip to play Racing Santander and possibly the following week's match in Seville, a newspaper reported.

Barcelona will also be without Eric Abidal through a muscle injury for the next two matches. Abidal is still recovering from a slight muscle problem.

Meanwhile Gerard Pique will be suspended next weekend after being sent off against Sporting, although the club may appeal against his direct red card.

Pique was sent off in controversial circumstances at the start of the second half against Sporting after a slight contact with Sporting's Miguel de las Cuevas.

Referee Velasco Carvalho, who denied Barca three clear penalties during the match and had no hesitation in sending the defender to the dressing room.

Afterwards Pique reacted angrily to the decision. "Referees take things too personally, in the first half I had told him we should have had a penalty for a push on Seydou Keita and he kept that in mind. He took it as something personal against me. Referees can make mistakes, but they should not take premeditated decisions," complained Pique.
