The new Basketball Arena is one of the largest temporary venues ever built for Olympic games. It took 15 months to build and was completed in June 2011.
The venue’s frame is made up of 1,000 tonnes of steel and is covered in 20,000 square metres of a recyclable white PVC fabric that will form the canvas for spectacular lighting displays during the Games.
The Basketball Arena will have seat capacity of 12,000 for spectators. The arena will also be used as a holding area for athletes during the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the Games.
