Kolkata: Basudeb Banerjee, a 1983 batch IAS officer, has been appointed as the West Bengal Home Secretary replacing G D Gautama.

A notification issued said that Banerjee would hold the post along with his existing responsibilities as the state’s Principal Secretary to the Commerce and Industry and Information Technology Minister.

As Home Secretary, Banerjee would also take additional responsibility of correctional homes, Hill affairs and Parliamentary affairs.

Earlier, the state government had recommended the name of Gautama, a 1977 batch IAS officer, as the state Information Commissioner.
