If former prime minister and probably, one of the most charismatic leaders of saffron camp Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s name exudes confidence in Rajnath, the thoughts of ending internal rifts in the BJP is also giving him sleepless nights.

In order to find a viable way out, the BJP president has made a major move in this direction by meeting personal assistant of the former prime minister, Shiv Kumar.

Shiv Kumar had big clout with all who’s who of Lucknow during Vajpayee era. Several BJP leaders also used to lobby for Shiv Kumar and when the same individual says that he sees glimpses of Atal in Rajnath, it could have wide impact on voters.

So, what Shiv Kumar has really seen in Rajnath that made him draw a parallel with Atal Bihari Vajpayee, one of the most respected leaders of the nation?

As the country’s premier, Atal Bihari Vajpayee had indeed played a major role in initiating developmental work and injecting growth in the economy. Besides, he was also an able administrator, a popular speaker and most importantly, a leader, who enjoyed widespread acceptance among all parties throughout his political career.

Whether or not Rajnath possesses these qualities, it’s upto Shiv Kumar to decide but it’s indeed a major success on Rajnath’s part to make Shiv issue such a gleaming statement.

Senior BJP leader Lalji Tandon, who is sitting MP of Lucknow and reportedly upset over certain developments in the party, has softened his stance and making appeals for Rajnath Singh. It cloud also be seen as a major achievement for the saffron party chief.

Those who are well aware of Rajnath’s brand of politics know that the BJP chief is quite versed in making promises. Only a few would be aware of what he said and who got benefitted, but it is now clear that Rajnath has got success in satisfying the party before pleasing the voters.

Lalji Tandon was looking to continue the legacy of Atal Bihari Vajpayee this time as well and even Kalraj Mishra was eyeing the Lucknow constituency. In fact, Lucknow Mayor Dinesh Sharma was throwing his weight around to gain ticket for Lucknow seat.

The sociological condition of Uttar Pradesh over the past few years has undergone such a change that no one can put up a convincing defiance to Narendra Modi in Varanasi and Rajnath Singh in Lucknow. It needs to be mentioned here that Lucknow has been BJP’s ground for quite a long period of time and Varanasi fits into the frame of BJP owing to its rich cultural and traditional significances.

Though the Congress has fielded Rita Bahuguna Joshi in Lucknow, a formidable candidate against Rajnath, Samajwadi Party has given a ‘friendly’ touch to the contest by pitting Abhishek Mishra, who is yet politically greenhorn.

Besides, Bahujan Samaj Party’s candidate Nakul Dubey has still got a long way to make to match Rajnath Singh’s political stature.

Overall, it can be said that BJP along with SP and BJP does not want to disturb their mutual relations owing to certain political equations.
