New Delhi: The battle line between the ruling BJP and the Congress has drawn in Gujarat with the Election Commission announcing poll dates for two phases assembly polls to be held on December 13 and 17.

With Himachal Pradesh witnessing the record 75 percent turnout in assembly elections held on Sunday, the Election Commission is hopping for similar trend in Gujarat polls also. It has devised strategy for higher turnout in politically important state Gujarat.

In order to conduct free and fare elections in Gujarat, the EC will conduct a series of meetings with state officials and representatives of political parties and visit the state to review of poll preparations said the commission sources. It has issued guidelines to check negative impact of paid news in the coming polls.

Several political parties like Keshubhai Patel-led Gujarat Parivartan Party (GPP), NCP, JD (U) are going to contest the assembly polls. Former Chief Minister Keshubhai Patel formed the GPP on August 6, 2012 after revolting against Narendra Modi. Such parties may prove to be party poppers for the BJP and the Congress in the assembly polls.
