New Delhi: In an effort to encourage the metro commuters to use smart cards to save time, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will observe 'Smart Card Week' from January 30 to February 5. DMRC will also set up special counters at 20 metro stations to guide travellers and tourists.

Anuj Dayal, DMRC spokesperson said, “We are promoting the use of travel smart cards to avoid standing in queues to purchase token and also to avail 10 percent discount on every journey.

He further informed that about 65 percent of Metro commuters use smart cards every day, with about 12,000 such tickets being sold each day.

“An additional counter will be functioning at all 20 stations,” Dayal said.

The counters will be set up in 20 Metro stations which have the highest footfalls, including Chandni Chowk, Rajiv Chowk, Karol Bagh, Pragati Maidan, Laxmi Nagar, GTB Nagar, Uttam Nagar East, Saket, Vaishali, Noida City Centre, Kashmiri Gate, MG Road, Dwarka Mod, RK Ashram, Chawari Bazaar, Anand Vihar etc.

The theme of the week will be 'Be SMART, Travel SMART,Use SMART CARD'.

Delhi Metro will also rope in FM radio channels during the week to highlight the benefit of using smart cards.
