Dobhi: The Bihar government on August 19, 1993 had laid the foundation stone of 176 houses under the highly ambitious Indira Awaas project at Angara village’s Korpuri Nagar Tola region in Gaya district.

But surprisingly, many of the houses are incomplete and some of them have already been sold by the beneficiaries.

When contacted, a local resident said that the government had sanctioned Rs 29000 to each of the 176 Dalit families for the construction of houses under the scheme. But those families failed to complete the construction of the houses. Actually the total fund released by the government could not reach to the needy people as most part of it was pocketed by the middlemen.

He further adds that the government authorities didn’t provide the villagers even the necessary papers required to have possession on the land and the houses which were to be completed. This has forced the people to sell their under-constructed houses at a throwaway price.
