New Delhi: Slamming Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati over her tall claims on the progress in the state, Union Steel Minister Beni Prasad Verma said the state government has not even allotted land for development projects. He alleged the UP government of failing to respond to the letters written by the Centre to the state on development projects.

Holding Mayawati responsible for the stalled development, he said, “Steel Ministry wanted to set up steel processing units in Lakhimpur Kheri, Gonda, Barananki, Jhansi and Mirzapur. Work is in progress to set up the Lakhimpur Khera unit but for Gonda and Barakanki units land has yet not been allotted. We need at least 20 to 25 acre land per unit.”

He added, “Last March, SAIL had made a request to the state government in this context, but the response is still awaited.”

Lamenting on the prevailing condition, he said, “When other states are actively coordinating with the Centre for the development projects, UP is a state which had constantly ignored this issue.”

Referring to the Team Anna’s proposed campaign in UP polls, Verma said, “If the movement is against the Congress, they should also tell the people about the party for which they should vote for.”
