Nangal: Alarmed by the recent serial bomb blasts in Mumbai and the possible terror threat to India’s biggest hydroelectric power project Bhakra Nangal Dam, the number of security personnel of the Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) deployed at the dam could be increased this week.

Notably, intelligence agencies have cautioned that the dam is on the hit list of Pakistan-based terrorist organizations Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jamaat-ud-Dawa.

An official of the dam security department, K S Rakkar said, “Security has been tightened here. Police force has been deployed at every nook and corner. Every individual is being thoroughly checked. The intelligence department is vigilant in a radius of 25 kilometres area.”

Rakkar also informed that senior officers were dissatisfied with the security arrangements and hence they held a meeting in that regard.
