Mumbai: Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) Wednesday posted a 21 percent increase in net profit at Rs.3,379.8 crore for the quarter ended March 31 against Rs.2,798 crore during the like period of the previous financial year.

The total income during the quarter under review stood at Rs.19,987.8 crore up 7.5 percent against Rs.18,589 crore during an year ago period, the company said in a regulatory filing.

During the year ended March 31, 2012, the net profit stood at Rs.7,039.96 crore up 17 percent against Rs.6,011 crore during the year ended March 31, 2011.

The total income during the year under review stood at Rs.49,244 crore up 14 against Rs.43,267 crore during the previous fiscal.

At the Bombay Stock Exchange the shares of the firm were trading 0.05 percent lower at Rs.208.50.
