Bhopal: Throwing their weight behind veteran social activist Anna Hazare, who is fighting tooth and nail for strong Lokpal to remove rampant graft and sleaze in the governance, the associations of Bhopal gas tragedy victims have expressed their solidarity with Team Anna.

They have said they would accompany Hazare from Bhopal to New Delhi in his fight against corruption.

Members of five associations, which are fighting for the rights of Bhopal gas tragedy, in a joint statement on Monday said the victims would support Hazare in his hunger strike starting from August 16 in New Delhi and Bhopal and added that they would protest in front of Union Carbide factory on Tuesday.

Raising voice in support of the Jan Lokpal Bill, the associations of the Bhopal gas victims said the draft of Lokpal Bill constituted by Civil Society will be more effective than that of Government in fighting corruption being rampant from Centre to state governments to the Judiciary.

Referring to the graft in handling the case of the victims of the Bhopal gas tragedy, Satinath Sarangi of Bhopal Group for Information and Action (BGIA) said, “For the last 27 years, we have been victims of corruption and this is the reason why we have been denied of medical treatment, financial aid and social rehabilitation.”

Balkrishna Namdeo, president of Bhopal Gas Peedit Nirashrit Pension Bhogi Sangharsh Morcha, Bhopal Gas Peedit Mahila Stationery Karmchari Sangh, Bhopal Gas Peedit Mahila Purush Sangharsh Morcha and other groups also voiced their support for the Jan Lokpal Bill.
