The letter written by Das to Special Branch Inspector General (IG) J S Gangwar, and marked to BHRC Chairman and two members, alleged "sweet relations" between Singh, who is a Lok Sabha member from Nawada, and the outlawed Ranveer Sena, a private militia of upper castes landlords which allegedly committed several massacres in Bihar between 1996–2000.

Giriraj Singh was on Sunday made Union minister of state for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME).

"The central minister has sweet relations with Ranveer Sena. Singh glorified its chief Bramheshwar Singh 'Mukhiya' and called him a follower of Gandhi, when he was shot dead (on June 1, 2012 by unidentified gunmen). The minister also visited Mukhiya’s native village and paid tribute to him. This is a serious matter and it should be given to the IB," the letter written by Das said.

BHRC immediately swung into action and its Chairman Justice (Retired) Bilal Nazki immediately called a meeting with two other members, Justice (Retired) Mandhata Singh and Neelmani, a former Director General of Police (DGP) of Bihar.

BHRC officials said the entire episode was discussed at the meeting and a show cause seeking explanation was served to the SP for writing the letter.
The show cause to the SP states, "You can have your opinion but at the same time you cannot give an impression that the opinion is of BHRC.... Express your position to the Commission within seven days."

BHRC member Neelmani said, "We have decided to ask Das for clarification and for using the letterhead and the logo of the Commission, as well as, giving the impression that his opinion was Commission’s opinion. We will decide the future course of action after we get the reply."

The BHRC has also sent copies of its show cause to Bihar Police headquarters.
