"No Comments. I am happy..," Debroy replied when his views were sought on his first day in office.
Debroy, who has been a research professor at Centre for Policy Research, is also a heading the committee to suggest ways to restructure the railway board. An economist by profession, he was educated at the Presidency College (Calcutta), the Delhi School of Economics and the Trinity College (Cambridge).
Beginning his career as an academician, Debroy taught at his alma mater, the Presidency College, and later at the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics (Pune), Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (Delhi) and National Council of Applied Economic Research (Delhi).
He was also the Director of Rajiv Gandhi Institute for Contemporary Studies, Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, New Delhi. Debroy worked as a consultant in the Department of Economic Affairs in Finance Ministry. He has served as the Secretary General of PHDCCI.
He has worked as Director for a project "LARGE" (Legal Adjustments and Reforms for Globalising the Economy), set up by the Finance Ministry and UNDP for examining legal reforms in the country.
Debroy has also authored several books, papers and popular articles, and has been a Consulting Editor of some financial newspapers in the country. He was also a member of the National Manufacturing Competitive Council and a member of Rajasthan Chief Minister's Advisory Council.
