Patna: In an effort to check the financial crime in the state, Bihar government has formed a separate Economic Offence Wing (EOW) in the state. A notification in this regard has been issued by the Home Ministry. The state EOW would be headed by an Inspector General (IG) level official and will function directly under the police headquarter.

IG Pravin Vashist will head the state unit of EOW. The wing will also have a DIG rank official and the charge for the post has been given to Nirmal Kumar Azad. In a planned manner, the EOW team will work out the cases related to economic crime.

The DSPs and Inspectors to be included in the wing are being send to the CBI training centre in Ghaziabad for professional training.

DGP Abhyanand said that for a smooth functioning and coordination, EOW unit will also be established on the district level. He claimed that all the team members would be provided separate training to tackle cases of financial crime as it needed a high-tech investigation to solve such matters.

He specifically pointed out that cases of financial crime would only be dealt by this unit. “32 Inspectors and 72 Sub Inspectors will also be included in the EOW team,” he added.
