Samastipur: India has pinned all its hopes on Bihar –born Shilpa Singh for the coveted Miss Universe competition to be held on December 19 in Las Vegas.

23-year-old Shipla Singh is a software engineer by profession and a model by passion.  Born to Suresh Kumar Singh, Shilpa spent her early childhood days in an unremarkable Diha village at Singhia in Samastipur district of Bihar. Her father was sales manager at Indian Oil and was placed in Muzaffarpur district at the time of her birth.

Shilpa, who will be representing India at the Miss Universe contest in Las Vegas on December 19, has brought happiness not only to her family but to the whole village which has been nondescript for so many years. Now everyone in this village is praying for her success.

Shilpa got her early education at North Point Public School in Muzaffarpur, where she studied upto second standard. In 1992 her father was transferred to Jamshedpur and she was enrolled in DBMS School. Just one year after that, Suresh was transferred to Ranchi and Shilpa studied there upto VIIth standard in Sacred Heart School.

Later the whole family shifted to Mumbai and Shilpa took admission in Kendriya Vidyalaya IIT and completed her higher secondary. After completing her school she did B.Tech in Computer Science from Mukesh Patel School of Technology Management & Engineering, NMIMS university of SVKM, Mumbai and is currently working for Infosys Technologies.

Shalabh Kumar, elder brother of Shilpa, said that she got selected for the Miss Universe competition through the coveted ‘I am she - Miss Universe 2012’ competition. She was crowned first runner-up at the beauty competition. But luck favoured Shilpa and she replaced the winner Urvashi Rautela, due to controversy shrouding her age.

On December 19, 2012, all eyes will turn to Las Vegas' Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino for the 61st Miss Universe. However, it will be live telecasted in India on December 20. Contestants from 89 countries are participating in this year’s Miss Universe beauty pageant.
