Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday condoled the demise of Union Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh. "His death has caused irreparable loss to politics and society," Kumar said his condolence message.

Kumar recalled Deshmukh's contribution to the nation and particularly to Maharashtra.

"I pray that God will give enough strength to his family and followers in this hour of sorrow," he said.

Meanwhile, Bihar Youth Congress activists led by its president Lalan Kumar held a condolence meeting and remembered Deshmukh for his contribution to the party.

Lalan Kumar said it was a great loss to the Congress and people of Maharashtra.

"Deshmukh will always be remembered for his contribution for the uplift of the poor and dedicated service to the nation," he said.

Former Congress Legislature Party leader in Bihar Legislative Council Vijay Shankar Mishra, party leaders Subodh Kumar and Rohit Paswan also condoled the death.

Deshmukh was admitted in a hospital for treatment of a liver ailment in Chennai where he passed away on Tuesday afternoon.

Meanwhile, the RJD supremo Lalu Prasad has condoled Union minister Vilasrao Deshmukh's death and said that the country and Maharashtra have lost a popular leader.

"May God give strength to the departed Union minister's family members, relatives and supporters to bear with the loss of Deshmukh", he said in a condolence message.

The state unit RJD president Ramchandra Purve and the senior party leader Ramkripal Yadav have also mourned the death of the Union Minister.

Governor Devanand Konwar has also condoled sad and untimely demise of Union Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh at a hospital in Chennai.

The Governor recalled Deshmukh's contribution to the nation and particularly to a state like Maharashtra.

In a condolence message, the Governor said, "I am deeply shocked to know the sad and untimely demise of Deshmukh.....With his demise, the country, especially the state of Maharastra, has lost a great leader, a good administrator and glorious son."

"I convey my heartfelt condolences to his family and to the vast number of his followers and admirers and pray to the Almighty to give peace to the departed soul," he said.

Deshmukh's contribution to the nation will always be remembered, Konwar said.
