The 1.84 km long Reinforced Cement Concrete (RCC) bridge built at a cost of Rs 368 crore in Naugachia will help connect Supaul, Saharsa, Madhepura districts directly with Bhagalpur, Purnia and Katihar districts.
Inaugurating the bridge, Kumar said, "Bridges not only connect two banks of a river, but also bring cultures together. We are honoured to name it after Baba Bishu Raut and dedicate it to the people." Baba Bishu Raut is a folk God of cattle owners.
The construction of the bridge was a long pending demand of the people of the region and Kumar had laid its foundation stone in 2010.
The Chief Minister also said that the state government was giving utmost priority to construction of bridges in remote and riverine areas so that development could reach the people living there.
