Patna: In an attempt to bring cheers to the sufferers of anti-social activities, the Bihar government has decided to provide reparations to victims and their families for loss of life, rape and incurring pains owing to other criminal activities.

The proposal for the Bihar Victims Compensation Scheme, 2011 was approved at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Principal Secretary Ravikant told reporters.

Under the scheme, Rs one lakh for loss of life, Rs 50,000 in the case of rape, Rs 25,000 for grievous hurt, Rs 25,000 for injuries after an acid attack, and Rs 25,000 for mental torture would be provided.

The recompense will be given even after the perpetrators are not identified, Ravikant said.

This provision has been made in reference to Section 357-A of the Criminal Penal Code (CrPC).
