Patna: Bihar Governor Devanand Konwar expressed shock and profound grief at the death of former Assam Minister and senior communist leader Pramod Gogoi. Konwar, in his condolence message, said that he has lost a personal friend and a visionary leader.

Bihar Youth Congress president Lalan Kumar also condoled Pramod Gogoi's death and said it had caused irreparable loss to Assam.

Kumar described Gogoi as a great social worker and a veteran freedom fighter.

Gogoi was admitted to the Guwahati Neurological Research Centre (GNRC) on April 2 after he complained of nasal bleeding. On April 2, Gogoi returned from Bihar after attending the 21st party congress. He suffered brain hemorrhage on April 6 night. He died on Friday.

Born Sep 29, 1930 in Sivsagar in Upper Assam, Gogoi was associated with the All India Students Federation (AISF). He joined the CPI in 1948 and was first elected to the Assam assembly in 1967 from Sivsagar. Gogoi was elected to the assembly five times.

He was also a minister of flood control and irrigation department in the AGP-led coalition government in Assam in 1996-2001.
