New Delhi: Bihar has strongly raised the issue of 50 percent financial aid from the Centre for raised scholarship given to SC/ST students in the state.

In a meeting of all the state welfare ministers organized by the Social Justice and Empowerment Ministry here, Bihar SC/ST Welfare Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi asserted that the increased scholarship has placed an extra burden on the state to the tune of Rs 100 crore. 

While addressing the meeting, Manjhi said, in order to help the state the Union Government should at least bear 50 percent of the financial expense for the increased scholarship.

The two-day conference was inaugurated by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Social Welfare Minister, from Bihar, Parveen Amanullah, Hari Prasad Shah- Panchayati Raj and Backward Classes & Extremely Backward Classes Welfare Minister and Amitabh Verma -Welfare Secretary participated in the meeting.
