Bhopal: Superintendent of Police (SP), Bilaspur district, Rahul Sharma (37) on Monday committed suicide by shooting himself.  The body was found near the toilet of officer’s mess. It is being speculated that owing to family dispute Sharma committed suicide.
A 2002-batch IPS officer, Sharma (37) originally belonged to Kurukshetra, Haryana. He was selected in the Chhattisgarh cadre. In January, Sharma was transferred from Naxal affected region of Raigarh to Bilaspur as an SP. His wife Gayatri Sharma has been working as Deputy General Manger (Commercial), Railways in Bilaspur. Sharma was living in a residential quarter allotted to his wife.

On Sunday evening he came to stay at officer’s mess. On Monday afternoon one of the workers noticed him lying dead in a pool of blood near toilet.

The forensic team on reaching the spot informed that Shrama allegedly shot himself with his service revolver. The team denied the speculations of depression behind the suicide.

Chief Minister Raman Singh has expressed condolence at Sharma's death.

The exact reason behind his suicide is not immediately known and senior officials have been asked to inquire into the incident, Singh told reporters here.
