Kangna Ranaut is slated to play a mountaineer in Hansal Mehta's upcoming biopic. Buzz is that it is the story of Arunima Sinha, the girl from Uttar Pradesh, who lost her leg when she was thrown from a moving train and became the first female amputee to climb the Everest.

Mehta took to Twitter to clarify details about the new project. "On recce while I'm seeing news of a biopic featuring Kangana directed by me," Mehta tweeted.

Having gone down the commercial road as far as possible, Sonakshi Sinha, whose latest masala film "Action Jackson' has received a mild response, is apparently set to take the more sober route with a biopic on eminent author-poet Amrita Pritam.

The movie has to be directed by debutante Jasmeet Reen. Sonakshi, known for her bubbly and effervescent characters, is all set to take a serious shot at an intense and real performance.

Also, a biopic is being planned on the life of Neerja Bhanot, the 23-year-old flight attendant who saved many lives during the 1986 hijacking of an American airliner in Karachi. And Sonam Kapoor has apparently been signed on to essay the protagonist’s role.

Neerja had joined the airlines after her marriage ended in less than a year following dowry pressure. A source says the film will be directed by Ram Madhwani and written by Saiwyn Quadras of Mary Kom fame.
