He was born in Delhi but studied at Silver Beach High School and went to Mumbai's famous Mithibai College. His cousin Anil is also a producer. Ajay played a cameo in Anil's film 'Haal–e–Dil'. The two are often mistaken to be real brothers.

Known for his action scenes and brilliant comic timing, Ajay’s first film was Phool Aur Kaante (1991) which was a blockbuster. Ajay became a star overnight. His entry stunt on the top of two moving bikes in the movie is still a hit.



Ajay met his wife Kajol on the sets of Hulchul but only started dating her during their second film Gunda Raj. They were termed as an unlikely couple due to their contrasting personalities.

He married actress Kajol in 1995 and the couple has two kids. As a producer, his first film was Raju Chacha that came in 2000. It is said that Devgn had dated Karisma Kapoor before Kajol.



Ajay Devgn was the original choice for Salman Khan's role in Karan Arjun. Noted filmmaker Yash Chopra was planning to approach Ajay Devgan for Shahrukh Khan's role in the movie Darr. However Ajay Devgn and Aamir Khan had walked away from the Yash Chopra banner.  

In1994, he starred in film Naajayaz and got nominated for Filmfare Best Actor Award. Two year later in 1996,  he made a film Diljale.



In 1997, he appeared in a comedy film Ishq. In 1998, he starred in film 'Major Saab' and 'Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha'. Later that year he made another film Zakhm in which he won several awards including the National Film Award for Best Actor and the Star Screen Award for Best Actor.

Then in 1999, he did 'Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam' which was a huge success. He did two more films 'Hindustan Ki Kasam' and 'Kachche Dhage'.


In 2000, he worked in film 'Deewane'. This film went flop at box office. Later in that year, he made his first home production film 'Raju Chacha' with his wife Kajol. It gave a huge success.



In year 2001, he starred in film 'Yeah Raaste Hain Pyaar Ke' which went average at box office. He then played a role in film 'Lajja' for which he got nominated for Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award. The film did not go well on box office. Then he worked in film 'Tere Mera Saath Rahen'.
 
Later on the same year, he also did a film 'The Legend of Bhagat Singh' which did not go well but gave him a Filmfare Critics Award for Best Performance as well as his second National Film Award for Best Actor. Then he came in a negative role in film 'Deewangee'. For this role' he got Filmfare Best Villain Award, Star Screen Award Best Villain and Zee Cine Award Best Actor in a Negative Role. It went average on box office.



In year 2003, he starred in a horror film 'Bhoot' which was a success at box office. Then he came in a action thriller film 'Qayamat: City Under Threat' which went a huge success. Then he worked in film 'Chori Chori' which went flop.

He made his directorial debut film, 'U Me Aur Hum' (2008) with wife Kajol.



Then in the same year' he made a film 'Gangaajal' in which he was  nominated for Filmfare Best Actor Award. Then he came in 'Zameen' which was a hit. His 'Golmaal' and 'Singham' series with director Rohit Shetty were blockbuster.

Ajay is known to be a prankster on sets. He is also known for his stunts and action in his films. All his recent films were a blockbuster and he is today one of the biggest stars in Bollywood. We wish him success in years to come.
