Jaipur: Expressing displeasure with the ongoing CBI probe into Bhanwari Devi case, the Bishnoi community on Friday took out a rally in front of the District Collector office in Jodhpur. The protesters also wrote letters to the Prime Minister, the Home Minister and the CBI Director expressing their anguish.

The Bishnoi community has charged the CBI for summoning arrested Congress MLA Malkhan Singh Bishnoi’s family members and his relatives without any reason.

Those who were summoned by the CBI included - Choga Ram Bishnoi (Tilwasni sarpanch), Babu Lal Bishnoi (brother of Sohan Lal Bishnoi), Mahendra Bishnoi (son of Malkhan Singh Bishnoi), Gop Singh Barna (sarpanch and friend of Parasram Bishnoi, pradhan of Bilara Kusum Bishnoi and Mangi Lal (a relative of Malkhan).

According to the family members of 80-year-old Amri Devi, mother of absconding Indira Bishnoi (an accused in Bhanwari Devi murder case), the CBI had called Amri Devi twice for questioning at the circuit house on January and February 1 after which she was admitted in the emergency ward of Jodhpur’s MGH hospital. Family members also added that Amri Devi’s condition is critical. Amri Devi’s husband late Ram Singh Bishnoi was a former Minister and a renowned leader in the region.

However, the CBI in a press note on Thursday had claimed that Amri Devi was not called for questioning.  In fact she visited the CBI premises on her own to discuss her nephew Babu Lal Bishnoi’s September 2 statement recorded before the CBI. ‘Amri Devi had called me and said that Sohan Lal had killed Bhanwari Devi,’ Babu Lal’s recorded statement was quoted by the CBI in its press note.

According to sources, the CBI on Thursday recovered notes worth Rs One lakh which was exchanged for kidnapping her. Sources also added the recovery was made following the statements made by Pukhraj Bishnoi son of Sohan Lal Bishnoi.

Sources further added that the CBI is mounting pressure on Indira’s family and cross-checking and verifying the statements recorded besides interrogating those in custody and stepping up its search for Indra Bishnoi.

Meanwhile, Mahendra Bishnoi, son of Malkhan Singh said, “The CBI has called my grandmother at the circuit house and interrogated her for three hours. The CBI has also threatened to arrest Kusum Bishnoi.”

CBI sources claim that sacked Rajasthan Minister Mahipal Maderna and Malkhan Singh were being blackmailed by Bhanwari who was allegedly having relations with them. They added that Bhanwari demanded Rs 50 lakh from Maderna with whom she was shown in a compromising position in a CD.

While Maderna was arrested on December 3, Malkhan was nabbed by the police on December 19 for their alleged involvement in the case.
