"Prices of onion, petrol and beer are the same, Rs 75-80 and the government does not know how to control inflation," BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad said while participating in a debate on the economy in Rajya Sabha.

"The Agriculture Minister claims every day that we have an abundance of grain. If there is an abundance, what is causing the price rise? It is gross mismanagement of the economy," he said. The BJP leader said all this happened in spite of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh himself being an eminent economist.

"The problem is the Prime Minister is in the office but not in authority. The Crony capitalism has come to rule," Ravi Shankar Prasad said.

Participating in the debate, Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar said that government is taking steps to control price rise. "We remember bringing down the BJP government in Delhi over onion prices. If you think you can do the same, you are dreaming. The government is taking steps to contain inflation," he said.
