New Delhi: Union Home Minister P Chidambaram, who is under flak from the main Opposition party, the BJP for the 2G Spectrum case, has yet again irked the saffron party members by his remarks on the suspended Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Sanjiv Bhatt.

The BJP not only advised Chidambaram to stay away from the state affairs but also linked him with the controversial IPS officer Sanjeev Bhatt. BJP's comments have come against the backdrop of criticism made by the Congress party on the filing of chargesheet against police officer Rahul Sharma by Modi government.

"Instead of strengthening effective policing, the Home Minister is supporting those who are spreading disaffection," BJP spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman said.

Bhatt has highlighted a name of an innocent person in a case related to the Narcotics. However, Bhatt was found guilty and was fined Rs 1 lakh. Sitharaman informed that Chidambaram as the Home Minister had transferred two officials who were related to the case outside the state without informing the State government.

She said that Chidambaram is supporting some NGOs which had backed officers like Sanjiv Bhatt, Sharma and spoken against the Modi government.

Sitharaman, while portraying the entire issue as a political gimmick said, “The Congress in wake of the upcoming Assembly elections has come up with the futile effort but has failed to remember that it has been unable to hold onto its Muslim vote bank in the state.”
