“Numerous corruption cases are being unearthed in various departments, but no action worth the name has been taken to address them,” the state unit of the party alleged in a statement in Itanagar.

“The CAG’s indictment of the state government for financial irregularities is a serious matter,” it said. The party also claimed that the state was in ‘acute deficit’ due to fiscal mismanagement.

“Besides budgetary deficit, the excess expenditure of budgetary allocations and advance loans taken from external agencies has put the state under a heavy debt burden. While SPA funds are being misused, the fiasco created during the 2013 March ending and advance spending of the amount of the next financial year allocation is a serious economic fraud committed against the spirit of the rules,” it alleged.

On the law and order front, the party alleged that the state’s police was neither equipped nor trained effectively.

“Police lockups are easily broken, government officials are beaten up, the dignity of girls is abused, media persons are attacked, young boys are carrying guns, the business community is harassed and general public is not feeling safe,” it added.

Meanwhile, the party demanded complete devolution of powers to the panchayat and municipal bodies, saying the move was essential for planning and execution of developmental projects from the ground level.
