Shimla: Mounting attack on Congress leader Virbhadra Singh, BJP asked the Himachal Pradesh Congress chief to disclose his source of income as there was a whopping increase in his I-T returns.

"Virbhadra Singh should explain the huge variation in declaration of assets at the time of Lok Sabha polls in 2009 and the affidavit filed by him alongwith nomination papers for Assembly polls," BJP leader Satya Pal told reporters here.

"The difference in value of assets is very wide and Singh must explain the reasons for steep rise in his income," he said, adding that the Election Commission should also ask the members to give details of increase in income and assets for the benefit of the voters.

Singh's revised filings from 2009-10 to 2011-12 show a near 13-fold increase in his agricultural income to Rs 6.57 crore from Rs 47.35 lakh.

BJP is poised to return to power with two-thirds majority and Singh should consider himself lucky if he is elected as leader of Congress in the Assembly, Pal claimed.

Meanwhile, President of Social Welfare and Reforms Council of India, Rajeshwar Singh Negi has also demanded that the candidates must disclose their source of income along with declaration of assets.

He said assets of several elected members had grown phenomenally during their tenure as members of Lok Sabha and state assemblies and the people have right to know the source of income.
