Gorakhpur: Stepping up their political ante in Uttar Pradesh ahead of the next year’s Assembly elections, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) launched a tirade against the Congress-led UPA government and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) at the Maha Sangram rally here on Tuesday.

Elated over huge gathering at Devi Park here, BJP president Nitin Gadkari left no stone unturned to blame the Congress and the BSP for the rampant corruption.

Drawing a parallel between the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre and Mayawati-led BSP government in Uttar Pradesh, Gadkari said, “Both the governments are indulging in corrupt practices and unfair means for the vested interests. The two governments have failed to perform as per the expectations of the people.”

“The time has come we should unite against anti-people policies of the Congress and the BSP, and make every effort to bring the BJP in power in Uttar Pradesh,” he added.

Reiterating his stand against corruption not only outside the party but inside as well, he cautioned the party workers to do away with factionalism and devote more time to regions outside Delhi and Lucknow.

Refuting all alliance speculations in the forthcoming Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, he said the BJP does not want to commit the mistake of coordinating either with SP or with BSP.

Addressing the media after paying a visit to the Gorakhnath temple, he said, “The BSP received votes from people on the assurance of maintaining proper law and order in the state but surprisingly the very promise has gone for a toss and the law and order situation is witnessing the worst scenario. Nine ministers of the ruling party are in jail on serious charges.”

“BJP has resolved to make India free from poverty, fear, hunger and terror. This rally has been to make people more responsible and help them coordinate with each other in this era of socio-political change,” he added.

Talking on the issue of blackmoney, he said, “The Central government has no intentions of bringing it back from abroad as it knows that if this happens then the real corrupt faces will come to the fore.”

He also attacked the Congress on the issue of terrorism and held it responsible for projecting India as a weak nation before the world. At a time when the nation is fighting against issues like Naxalism and terrorism the Congress is busy in Muslim appeasement, he added.
